Heritage Minute on L.M. Montgomery for International Women’s Day
In honour of International Women’s Day, Historica Canada has created this beautiful new Heritage Minute on L.M. Montgomery. The minute was done in consultation with UPEI’s past-president, Dr. Elizabeth Epperly, and Montgomery scholars, Dr. Mary Rubio and Dr. Laura Robinson and explores Montgomery’s struggles to be accepted as a woman writer and her lifelong battle with depression.
According to Maureen Coulter, the minute was filmed on the Island and in Ontario in September. Epperly told Coulter, it is “fitting” to launch this Heritage Minute on International Women’s Day because Montgomery was a strong advocate for women. And, Montgomery’s granddaughter, Kate Macdonald Butler, called it, “A sensitive, evocative interpretation of my famous grandmother, L.M. Montgomery. I’m so pleased that she will be introduced to a whole new generation on International Women’s Day.”
It is wonderful to see this tribute to Montgomery’s life and work.
