UPEI’s L.M. Montgomery Institute and the Confederation Centre Public Library Host Budge Wilson in Charlottetown

June 12 2008

Charlottetown--The L.M. Montgomery Institute (LMMI) at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is pleased to introduce a new Writers-in-Residence series this year.

The LMMI has partnered with the Confederation Centre Public Library for the inaugural free public program, which will feature renowned Nova Scotia writer Budge Wilson. Since publishing her first book in 1984, Budge Wilson has published over 32 books, with translations in 10 languages and in 13 countries. She is the recipient of numerous awards for her work writing and has had several of her works dramatized for CBC radio.

Budge Wilson’s most recent book is Before Green Gables, the popular prequel to the beloved novel, Anne of Green Gables, by world-renowned Island author L.M. Montgomery. In conjunction with her attendance at the L.M. Montgomery Institute’s international conference in Charlottetown from June 25 to 29, Budge Wilson will give a public reading and a question and answer session at the Confederation Centre of the Arts at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 29 2008.

Following her reading, Wilson will talk from 3 to 4:30 p.m. about her craft and the ways in which her most recent book differed in process from previous works. This second session will take place in the Confederation Centre Public Library and will be limited to 15 people. Attendance will be determined by a random selection of applicants; attendees must be over 18 years of age. A form for applying for this "Up Close and Personal" session will be available in early June on the website listed below.

The L.M. Montgomery Institute is housed at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), and is dedicated to helping students and scholars learn about and study L.M. Montgomery's life, works, and influence. The Confederation Centre Public Library in Charlottetown is part of the PEI Provincial Library Service, which this year celebrates its 75thth anniversary.
